Our School Uniform

As a school, we have high expectations for our pupils and this includes a smart dress code (school uniform) and behaviour. which we expect all children to wear and follow. Uniform is an important part of a school’s identity; it sets a standard showing they respect our school and for the pupils themselves. It also sends out a positive message to the community that we are a school with high standards and want the very best for our pupils.

Please name all items of uniform clearly.

School Shoes

Children are expected to wear plain black school shoes all year round. Trainers (with colours), sandals, pumps etc are not be permitted. There are ‘school trainers’ which would be permitted but these must be:

  • Completely black - not coloured soles or tags.
  • Polishable - this means leather or another polishable synthetic material- not canvas or soft material.

There are some ‘school trainers’ which are perfectly fine for your child to wear. These are leather type trainers with a solid black sole - not material / canvas one which can get wet and do not protect your child’s feet. Here are some examples of ‘school trainers’ that would be permitted- these are just suggestions so you know the type of permitted trainers.

Hair

All pupils with hair long enough to be tied back into a bobble, should have it tied back, this applies to both girls and boys. This is so it is tidy, out of their face, but also reduces the chance of head lice spreading throughout the class and school.

We will have spare bobbles in school for anybody who forgets and comes into school with their hair loose. Bobbles and ribbons should be in school colours and of a sensible size for school. Headbands should also be black or royal blue and of sensible size, not fully cat ear type; pupils will be asked to remove these.

During term time, pupils are not allowed hairstyles which include: shaved, dyed or streaked hair, beading, patterns, mohawks, lines and tramlines.

Jewellery, Make-up and Nails

The only jewellery permitted in school are small studs ear rings and watches (not smart-watches). Earring hoops, bracelets, necklaces all pose a safety risk in case they get caught and pulled.

Jewellery MUST be removed before children take part in physical education or undertake any physical activities.

Pupils are not allowed to wear make-up or nail varnish or false nails to school. False nails are inappropriate and unnecessary for our pupils, they are often required to engage in practical activities and the nails could pose a safety issue.

I understand that you may allow your child to wear this over half-terms breaks and weekends, but this should be removed before they return to school.

A supply of baby-wipes and nail varnish remover will be kept in the school office for anyone who forgets and comes into school wearing it.

Children who are seen not to be following our policy, will receive a phone call home asking their parents to rectify the situation.
